Zambia

Zambia

The birthplace of walking safari and Africa at its most authentic

Zambia is where the walking safari was born. A country that has stayed away from mass tourism, offering wildlife encounters that elsewhere are now just a memory.
There are countries you visit and countries you feel. Zambia belongs to the second group. Here safari is not a spectacle: it's an immersion. You walk through the savanna with a guide who knows every track, every sound, every sign. You sit by the fire while hippos rumble in the river. You wake to the distant roar of lions. South Luangwa is Zambia's heart: a remote valley where leopards are easier to see than anywhere else in Africa. Here Norman Carr invented the walking safari in the 1950s, and the tradition continues intact. Lower Zambezi offers another perspective: canoes gliding past elephants drinking on the bank, tiger fish leaping from the water, sunsets that set the river ablaze. What distinguishes Zambia is its authenticity. Camps are small, often run by families who have been in the valley for generations. Guides have deep knowledge that goes beyond identifying species: they understand the ecosystem as a whole. And visitors are few, allowing experiences that no longer exist in other destinations.

Where walking safari was born

Norman Carr invented walking safari in South Luangwa in the 1950s. Today, that tradition continues intact: exceptional guides, close encounters and a way of experiencing Africa that exists nowhere else.

Night drive

Night drive

South Luangwa is one of the few parks allowing night safaris. Leopards hunting, hyenas, civets and all the life that awakens when the sun goes down.

Devil's Pool

Devil's Pool

Swimming on the edge of Victoria Falls, in a natural pool where water drops 108 metres right beside you. Only in dry season, only from Zambia.

The leopard capital

South Luangwa has one of Africa's highest leopard densities. Watching them hunt at night, rest in branches during the day, is one of African safari's great experiences.

We work with Zambia's pioneer camps: families who have been in the valley for generations, guides who have dedicated their lives to the bush and an authentic safari philosophy you feel from the first moment.
