Malawi

The warm heart of Africa and its endless lake

Malawi is Africa's best-kept secret. A small country dominated by an immense lake, where hospitality is genuine, landscapes are spectacular and mass tourism simply doesn't exist.
There are countries discovered by accident that end up stealing your heart. Malawi is one of them. A country the size of Portugal, crossed by a 580-kilometre-long lake occupying almost a third of its surface. A place where people greet you with genuine smiles, where children run to wave along the roads, where the rhythm of life remains deeply African. Lake Malawi is undoubtedly the protagonist. A World Heritage Site for its unique biodiversity, it harbours over a thousand cichlid fish species found nowhere else on the planet. But it's not just for biologists: its crystal waters, golden sand beaches and remote islands offer an "African beach" experience completely different from the Indian Ocean. What surprises about Malawi is that it also has safari. Liwonde and Majete have been conservation success stories: parks that were devastated two decades ago and today host the Big Five. Seeing elephants by the Shire River, boat safari among hippos, walking with guides in search of rhinos... all with a fraction of the visitors of any other African destination.
