Uganda
The pearl of Africa, where great primates and the Nile are born
Uganda is the pearl of Africa, as Churchill called it. A country of extraordinary biodiversity, where you can see gorillas in the morning and do classic safari in the afternoon, all in landscapes of wild beauty.
Bwindi Impenetrable
Mountain gorillas · Primeval forest
Bwindi Impenetrable
UNESCO Heritage. Half of all mountain gorillas live here. Dense, steep, mysterious jungle. Tracking is more demanding than Rwanda, but equally magical.
Kibale Forest
Chimpanzees · Primate capital
Kibale Forest
Africa's highest primate density. 1,500 chimpanzees plus 12 monkey species. Chimp tracking, walks and overwhelming biodiversity.
Queen Elizabeth
Classic safari · Tree-climbing lions
Queen Elizabeth
Uganda's most visited park. Savanna safari, Kazinga Channel cruise (hippos and elephants), and the world's only tree-climbing lions.
Murchison Falls
Wild Nile · Waterfalls
Murchison Falls
The Nile compressed into a 7-metre gorge, falling with thunderous force. Safari, cruise to the falls, Rothschild giraffes. Dramatic landscapes.
Lake Bunyonyi
Thousand islands · Relaxation
Lake Bunyonyi
One of Africa's deepest lakes, dotted with islands. Perfect for resting after tracking. Kayaking, swimming, canoe trips. No bilharzia or hippos.
Mgahinga
Volcanoes · Alternative gorillas
Mgahinga
Uganda's smallest park, bordering Rwanda and Congo. One habituated gorilla family, volcanoes to climb and golden monkey tracking.
Bwindi Impenetrable
Its name says it all: a jungle so dense that penetrating it is a challenge. But within live half the remaining mountain gorillas. The effort is worth every step.
Experiences
Uganda offers experiences combining primates and classic safari in a unique way. From gorillas in the mist to Nile waterfalls, each day brings something extraordinary.
Gorilla tracking in Bwindi
More demanding than Rwanda, but with the same reward: an hour with a gorilla family. Bwindi has more families and trails through truly virgin jungle.
Chimpanzee habituation
Not 3 hours, but all day. You follow a chimp group from waking until nesting. Watch them eat, fight, play, rest. Total immersion in their world.
Cruise to Murchison Falls
Sailing the Nile to where the river compresses into a 7-metre gorge and plunges with thunderous force. Hippos, crocodiles, elephants on the banks.
Tree-climbing lions of Ishasha
In southern Queen Elizabeth, lions have developed the unique habit of climbing fig trees. Searching for them among branches is a different safari experience.
Where the Nile is born
The world's longest river begins its 6,650-kilometre journey in Uganda, emerging from Lake Victoria. At Murchison Falls, all its force compresses into a seven-metre gorge.
We work with Uganda's finest lodges: from luxury safari camps to boutique properties beside the gorillas. Uganda has fewer options than other destinations, but the good ones are exceptional.
