Malaysia

Where skyscrapers blend with ancient rainforest, wild orangutans and postcard beaches: Asia at its most diverse

Malaysia is a country of surprising contrasts. Petronas Towers next to centuries-old Hindu temples, Borneo rainforests with wild orangutans, paradise islands with spectacular seabeds, and gastronomy fusing the best of Asia.
Malaysia is Southeast Asia's best-kept secret. While neighbors Thailand and Vietnam grab headlines, Malaysia offers an equally rich experience but less crowded, with excellent tourist infrastructure and very competitive prices. The country divides into two parts: Peninsular Malaysia (where Kuala Lumpur, Cameron Highlands, Penang and east coast islands are) and Malaysian Borneo (Sabah and Sarawak), separated by the South China Sea. Each region offers completely different experiences. Kuala Lumpur surprises with its modernity and multiculturalism: mosques, Hindu temples, Chinese quarters, futuristic skyscrapers... all coexisting in perfect harmony. Petronas Towers remain iconic, but the city has much more to offer. And then there's Borneo: primary rainforests where wild orangutans live, Mount Kinabalu dominating the horizon, rivers navigated in longboats, tribes maintaining ancestral traditions. It's another world within the same country.
